The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D) mourns the loss of long-time friend and ӰԺalumnus Bruce Hilliard, ’85, ’02, who passed away on Aug. 9, at the age of 52.
Hilliard held a passionate commitment to introducing students underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to those fields. For over 25 years, he brought thousands of children of color to the Ronald E. McNair Camp-in at the Pacific Science Center through leading Blacks-in-Science. And for over 20 years, he served as an executive board member for the ӰԺSeattle Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program.
Hilliard was also an academic coordinator in the ӰԺAthletic Department for over 14 years. He began his career as an engineering project manager for GTE and U.S. West.
Hilliard received his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1985 and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies in 2002 from the UW.
