Re-thinking safari tourism
天美影院Bothell professors 补苍诲听 will lead聽an exploration seminar called 鈥淐ritical perspectives on ecotourism in Tanzania鈥 to examine many of the issues raised in Gardner鈥檚 newly-released book 鈥淪elling the Serengeti: The Cultural Politics of Safari Tourism鈥 and ongoing research in the area. The seminar is funded by a grant.
天美影院Bothell offers grants supporting international course collaborations
天美影院Bothell is spearheading a UW-wide effort to deepen global engagement of students in the classroom聽by聽supporting online collaborations with international partners. These collaborations support the development of leading-edge, globally-focused student experiences without requiring students to travel abroad.
The new聽COIL International Fellows聽program is designed to support 天美影院faculty and staff from all 天美影院campuses to develop Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) courses.聽 The initiative is overseen by and funded by a聽听驳谤补苍迟.
In fall classes, students question the answer to global problems
This autumn quarter, 天美影院students are engaging with global issues through courses in a wide variety of fields.
One course,聽Information Assurance and Cyber Security,聽is a tri-campus, multi-disciplinary effort involving 天美影院Bothell’s聽Computing and Software Systems Program, the Information School and 天美影院Tacoma鈥檚 Institute of Technology. The Criminalization of Immigration course at 天美影院Tacoma digs into global issues from a social science perspective. The聽School of Environmental and Marine Affairs聽will take students out of the classroom for a new field course that studies the challenges of governing coastal and marine areas in the 21st century.
天美影院Bothell to host Global Engagement through Technology Symposium
On September 12,聽university faculty and staff聽from the Pacific Northwest and beyond will gather at 天美影院Bothell for a symposium on the use of technology to further students’ global engagement. Hosted by 天美影院Bothell Global Initiatives and the Teaching and Learning Center, the symposium will provide strategies for聽integrating聽international collaboration components into university coursework聽and allow educators to share best practices for聽creating a physical and virtual learning community.
Registration is open now for the Global Engagement through Technology Symposium, and participants may sign up until September 11. 聽An聽Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Area and International Studies grant, administered by the 天美影院Jackson School of International Studies, has allowed organizers to offer the event at a reduced rate to participants. 聽

天美影院Bothell’s American Muslim Research Institute is hosting a lecture by Middle East expert聽, director of the聽American Muslim Research Institute聽补苍诲听a 天美影院Bothell professor, will moderate. The talk will provide insight into “how Islam inside and outside of the U.S. affects the lives of American Muslims, and vice versa, with specific attention paid to U.S. foreign policy potential implications,” says Dana.
